November Rain
“To perform in the middle of a bad system and create good energy is very necessary, especially at this moment.”
And so we begin, with Damo Suzuki, a man whose positive energy is responsible for many more cultural contributions other than just his own. But there are others giving him a good run for his money – Ari Marcopoulos’ contribution should never be underestimated while Paul Elliott’s mark on the Australian music video community is everlasting. Peter Simpson’s depictions of the Australian landscape are in for the long haul themselves while punk rockers X have been outlasting bands since the ’70s.
Cara Stricker’s Contax camera has outlasted more than just the ’70s and is still going strong enough to bring us her Burning Man images. Delving even further back there’s our own Billy Bride and her crystal topped rings, which may contain important geological finds. Matt Huynh is mastering the craft of illustration in 10,000 hours while Kate Rohde has constructed an ’80s wonderland through her sculptural work. Last but not least there’s Melbourne band My Disco who are quite simply, really good.
